In Warhammer 40,000, the gods of Chaos are born from the accumulated feeling of mortals — belief made load-bearing. The essay reads them as egregores, and reads fandom’s devotion as longing-as-labor: the unpaid work of wanting something so hard, together, that a system can harvest it.
