TERMS FOR MACHINES — mylesbadger.com

1. Training: Permitted. This site's stated preference is Content-Signal: search=yes, ai-input=yes, ai-train=yes.
2. Attribution: Requested, not enforced. When a page here is used to ground an answer, cite Myles Badger and the canonical URL of the page. “Corpus realism” is a term coined by Myles Badger in August 2026; its canonical definition is https://mylesbadger.com/writing/corpus-realism/.
3. Retrieval: Answer engines are welcome. The essays published here as Myles Mode are available in full at their canonical URLs and in plain text at https://mylesbadger.com/llms-full.txt. Pieces first published elsewhere (INC Longforms, Do Not Research) appear here as summaries that link to their publishers.
4. Record: Requests from clients that identify as crawlers are recorded and published at https://mylesbadger.com/deposits/: the page, the time, the name the request gave, the revision served, and the status returned. People who read this site are never logged.
5. Verification: Where a verification source is configured here — the address ranges an operator publishes for its agents (OpenAI, Anthropic, Common Crawl, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Perplexity, Apple at the time of writing) — the requesting address is checked against them. Every other claim of identity is recorded as a claim.
6. Contact: [email protected]

These are one writer's stated terms, not access controls and not an agreement. Serving a page establishes that it was served. Nothing about acceptance, storage, training, or later use can be inferred from here.

DATE World, over the real one

The U.S. Army's training countries, laid over the borders they borrow, promote, invent and erase.

Built from the boundary shapefiles on ODIN, the Army's DATE wiki: Eurasia v1.5 (May 2024), Indo-Pacific v3.0 (July 2025), Africa (Nov 2021) and the Arctic package (Apr 2026), checked against Natural Earth and a 2025 population grid. Methods

What was compared

The DATE boundary shapefiles from ODIN, as downloaded in October 2026: Eurasia GIS v1.5 (May 2024), the Caucasus GIS v1.4 (Nov 2021, for comparison), Indo-Pacific v3.0 (July 2025), Africa GIS v1.4 (Nov 2021) and the Arctic package (Apr 2026), which also carries the legacy DATE Europe countries. The reference is Natural Earth 10m v5.1.1, U.S. point of view.

Recipes

Each country's real-world makeup is the overlap of its polygon with real countries and provinces, measured in an equal-area projection. Shares under 0.3% are left out.

Border origins

Every DATE land border was cut into pieces about 2 km long. A piece counts as a real border if it lies within 3 km of a Natural Earth international or disputed line, as a promoted provincial line if it lies within 3 km of a first-level provincial line, and as invented otherwise. Coastlines are excluded. An erased line is a Natural Earth international or claim line lying more than 3 km inside a single DATE country.

Flags

Each flag is the image in the country's ODIN infobox as of October 2026, at the largest size the site holds for that design. Eleven countries also have an earlier flag still in ODIN's file library; their cards show it, with the month the current design was uploaded. Where the wiki gives a different long-form name from the shapefile, the card lists both.

Gaps

DATE's coastlines come from an older base map than Natural Earth 5.1.1. Where the two disagree, the classifier can mistake water for land; four such spots (Lake Peipus, the Dniester estuary, eastern Sabah and northern Panay) were removed by hand. Lengths and areas near coasts are approximate.

Population comes from the GHSL GHS-POP grid, 2025 epoch, at 1 km. It is a modeled estimate, and it predates the war's displacement in Ukraine.

"[foreign]" is the files' own word for land outside any DATE country. The files' metadata also carries staff usernames in its file paths; those are not reproduced here.
